About this blog

As my first post explains, this blog is about fairies and magical creatures of all kinds. About elves and brownies, about witches and wizards, about pixies, about mermaids, ... about fantasy. The fantasy we all miss in our hectic everyday lives, the fantasy that was so natural to us when we were kids.

It is a blog about fairy tales and their creators and about fairy tale illustration throught time. It is mostly a blog about art. About fantasy art which I adore. About the art which I am lucky and proud to collect. Yes, that's right! I collect fantasy art (I of course have a long way to go until I am able to own an original Brian Froud but still ...). I'd like to share the art I own with the rest of the world and a blog is an ideal place for this purpose. Something like an online exhibition. I have turned quite a few people around me (friends and family, even my twin little nieces Adriana and Antigoni who are 4 years old) into fairy art lovers during the last three years and it's pretty much time to expand ... You see, there are brilliant artists out there, people with grate talent and vivid imagination who create magnificent images, images that can colour the dullest of lives and bring back to our faces the smiles of childhood.

I also want to share my art (I say "my art" because I am priviledged to have bought it, but it truly belongs to those who have created it) with Sherry and her husband Haris, best friends of mine who live in the States. Among all my friends, Sherry is the one who would really fall in love with fantasy art like I have, and would be able to share with me the moments of "art" searching, the moments of discovering a new painting on the web that tells us a fairy tale by itself!

Every scan or photo will be done or taken by me, of original artwork that I own and I have written permissions by the artists themselves to use their names and post their images in this blog. But please always keep in mind that all artwork that will be displayed in this blog is copyrighted by the artists themselves who retain the sole and exclusive rights of the commercial use of the images they created and must not be misused in any way. Even if the images are downloaded they are of low resolution and they cannot print well. A name credit will be always displayed along with the image as well as a direct link back to the artists' sites.

Before I finish with this loooong description I'd like to point out that I know nothing of HTML coding and therefore I expect to meet with problems as I go along. I'll give it a try though and I hope that I'll manage to make this work and even make some of you discover the beauty of fantasy art, just like I have!

PS The picture in this blog's title bar is a detail of a page decoration of an illustration done by the unique Arthur Rackham (1867-1939) for "Midsummer night's dream" and will be the only one coming from art that I do not own (needless to say that I wish I owned a Rackham original but I don't see this happening in this life time ... he, he!!). I also hope that I will not meet with any problems because of the copyrights for using a detail of this illustration as this is a non-profit blog. I'm sure that Arthur Rackham's work is definetely copyrighted but I have absolutely no idea who to ask for a permission.
